Cancel appointment of 'fake degree' holders: MLC

Last Updated 07 June 2009, 19:08 IST

Speaking to reporters here at a press meet, Limbikai warned that he would launch a protest and added that he would would approach the court, if necessary. Terming their degrees as ‘fake,’ the MLC demanded that appointment of these candidates as lecturers in Government degree colleges should be cancelled.  “Only those candidates who have received M Phil and PhDs from recognised regular universities should be considered for the posts,” he said.

He alleged that M Phil degrees received from Annamalai, Kamaraj, Alagappa, Periyar, Vinayaka Mission and such other distance education universities were fake. “More than 40 per cent of such fake certificate holders were selected for the lecturers’ posts. This is injustice towards meritorious eligible candidates,” he remarked.

Most of these universities were centred in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. “While Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh governments have stopped considering the degrees from these universities during recruitment into government posts, the State Government should also follow suit and take such a stringent action immediately,” he urged.

He also suggested that the University Grants Commission should take action against opting for M Phil and PhDs through distance education.
