The glass of the shrine has been damaged in the incident.
The decreation believed to have been taken place between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning as it was brought to others’ notice by employer who had come for cleaning the premises.
The Roman Catholic shrine was renovated in recent years. The two idols in the shrine, St Joseph and Mother Mary are not damaged in the incident though the glass in front of it has been broken.
It is suspected that the miscreants used the opportunity of the absence of police beat in the town as majority of them are on GP election duty.
Meanwhile the in-charge DC, higher police officials visited the spot and had a meeting with the Christian leaders.
Ronald Jerome D’Souza of Holy Cross Betterment Committee has lodged a police complaint.
So far none has been taken in to custody, police said on Wendesday evening.
