'Farmers seeking less loan in district'

Among 20 lakh farmers who have taken loan from the societies, only 1800 farmers are from Kolar, he said at a press meet here on Thursday.

The Primary Co-operative Banks are providing 3 percent loan and as many as 3,700 crore has been given as loan to the farmers in the State. Since only 20 co-operative societies have obtained A-grade certificate, only seven crore farmers have taken loan, he observed.
“According to recommendations made by the Vaidhyanathan Committee, the sick societies will be revived,” he said. Elections to the primary co-operative societies will be held by March.

Inquiry

“Inquiry is being conducted into the alleged irregularities of Rs one crore at the District Credit Co-operative Bank.

There are allegations about the staff being indulged in irregularities. Once, auditing report is out, legal action would be initiated against the guilty,” Gowda said.

Rs 10 crore released

To waive off farmers’ loan in the district, the district has been granted Rs 150 crore and Rs 10 crore has been released to primary co-operative societies, as recommended by the Vaidhyanathan Committee,” he said. Bank’s officers Veeresh, Kumar, Nagarajaiah and M R Patil were present.
