While Shivakumar (6) died on the way to the hospital, his mother Shashikala breathed her last at a hospital in the City on Saturday, police said. Shashikala's four-year-old daughter Chaitra is out of danger.

Shashikala was married to Devaraj (28), a farmer, for eight years. In the afternoon, the couple fought after Devaraj allegedly sneered at Shashikala's cooking at their house in Hullegowdanahalli.

Annoyed at her husband's jeers, she slit their children's throat with a knife after Devaraj left for his farm.

Later, she hanged herself with a saree from the cement-sheet roof.

The incident came to light when Devaraj returned around 9 pm. In shock, he took Shashikala, who was still breathing, down and rushed them all to the hospital. Although Shivakumar died on the way, Shashikala and Chaitra were still alive.

However, Shashikala on Saturday died at the Columbia Asia Hospital in the City, but Chaitra's condition is stable, police have said.

Nelamangala Police took Devaraj for questioning and slapped a case of subjecting his wife to cruelty under Section 498 (A) of the IPC. He will be arrested later.

The bodies were handed over after a post-mortem was conducted at the Government
