12 die in UP squall

While 11 people were killed in the eastern UP district of Ghazipur, about 70 km from Varanasi, one person was killed in Etawah district, reports reaching here said.
Traffic hit

The high velocity winds disrupted communication link and movement of trains besides vehicular traffic, reports said.

Movement of trains in the Mughalsarai section of the Eastern Railway was disrupted for several hours when the electric wires snapped, owing to the strong winds.
Vehicular traffic also came to a standstill at many places in the state after the uprooted trees fell on the roads, reports said. Electric poles were also uprooted in several parts of the state, disrupting power supply in many areas.

The government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 1 lakh each to the next of the kin of those killed, according to official sources here.
As many as 34 people were killed when large parts of state were lashed by rain accompanied by strong winds a few days back.
