Kodagu celebrates Basava Jayanthi

He was delivering blessings at the Basava Jayanthi programme organised jointly by the Kodagu District Administration and Kannada and Culture Department at Kaveri Kalakshetra in Madikeri on Sunday. “Though the paths of various religions are different, the ultimate goal is same. But superstition, arrogance and anger pose threat to the society as a barrier for peace. Hence, awareness on religion should be created among people,” Swamiji said. He called upon people to make work a worship. Overconfidence and excessive self-reliance too are dangerous, he added.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Deputy Commissioner K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda said that the principles of Basavanna are relevant in the modern world too. A reformation is possible in life, if the principles of Basavanna was followed, he added.

“Though every individual in India has right to live, we could not eradicate inequality in the society. Basavanna was one of the revolutionaries, who fought against inequality in 12th century. It is our duty to adhere to the principles of Basavanna and serve the society,” Gowda said.

Delivering a talk on ‘Relevance of Basava Principles,’ Advocate K R Vidyadhar said that efforts should continue to eradicate inequality to make the dreams of Basavanna a reality. Basavanna, who did never abuse his powers, was always with the poor and downtrodden.

Superintendent of Police Manjunath K Annigeri, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mirza Akbarulla, Kannada and Culture Department In-Charge Assistant Director Vinodchandra and others were present.
