Former VTU VC files cheating case against present VC

Dr Reddy charged that the present vice chancellor had taken credit for a book edited by him, during his tenure at the VTU in 2006. The charges were made at the Judicial Magistrate First Class court-II here. The JMFC court admitted the case and began recording Dr Reddy’s evidence, which would continue on Thursday at 11 am.

Dr Reddy’s advocate R G Patil told the media that if Dr Khincha is found guilty of the charges, he could be sentenced to imprisonment for two to seven years and slapped with a fine of up to Rs two lakh.

Dr Reddy said he had brought out a book titled ‘A Primer on Computer Aided Engineering Drawing’ in 2006 to help mechanical engineering students with modern technology.

Nine chief authors had contributed to the book and Dr Reddy was the chief editor in his capacity as the then VC.

The book was published by the VTU and was made available to students at Rs 50 per copy. It was later approved as a text book.

The same was reprinted again in 2009, but the name of Dr Reddy was replaced with that of present VC Dr H P Khincha.

“If the same book was printed again then my name should have remained there. I do not mind if it had been a new book and Dr Khincha was the chief editor. But in this case my name has been replaced with an intention to claim royalty,” he alleged.
