Hosur Expressway opening delayed again

Last Updated 08 June 2009, 18:58 IST

The 9.985-km toll way that promises motorists a smooth and faster ride from Central Silk Board to Electronic City has been in news recently for not meeting the deadline. However, Project Director of NHAI, Manoj Kumar is confident that the expressway will be thrown open to public in August.

“We have completed 92 percent of the project’s construction work. Only finishing touches remain. NHAI will complete the project, latest by August,” he told Deccan Herald on Monday. He admitted that Maytas Infra issue after Satyam scam delayed the project. Issues of finances of concessionaire was also responsible for delaying the project work.”

The expressway is a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) project on a toll basis and is constructed by Bangalore Elevated Tollway Ltd, a consortium of three companies viz Soma, Nagarjuna and Maytas Infra. It may be recalled that the former Union Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, K H Muniyappa had said in January that the project will be completed by April/May.

Manoj Kumar responded to this by adding that the National Highways Authority of India  is doing its best to complete the project early.

“Once the structure work at Electronic City interchange and Chandapura and Attibele stretch of the flyover is completed, we will inaugurate the project,” he said.
