But on receiving it, he discovered it was damaged. He sent back the damaged sofa to the seller paying transportation charges of Rs 2,320 and they sent him another sofa.  This too was damaged! The air that he filled into it began to leak within a short span and the sofa was not usable. He now lost interest in the transaction and asked for a refund. Despite several attempts, the firm ignored his request and he complained to the IV Additional Consumer Forum.

The Forum president D Krishnappa found the seller guilty of deficient service and has ordered it to refund Rs 7,293 to Prakash along with Rs 8,000. He has also ordered Telebrands not to indulge in supply of defective products to consumers and restrained such acts of unfair trade practice under Section 14 of the Consumer Protection Act.

Nightmarish bus journey

The I Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has found the Divisional Controller, KSRTC, Subhashnagar, guilty of deficient service, and has ordered it to pay up Rs 500 to a disgruntled consumer.

K S Ramprasad and N Geetha had bought two-way tickets between Bangalore and Thirukoilur from KSRTC. But on the return journey, they reached the Thirukoilur bus terminal at 9.30 pm. They found three Bangalore-bound buses on the platform, but their names were missing in the reservation list of all three buses.

They were not allowed to board any bus though they waited desperately till 11.30 pm. Accompanied by another passenger, they finally went to the Channapatna bus depot and bought new tickets to reach Bangalore.

KSRTC ignored the summons of the consumer forum and its president, H V Ramachandra Rao, ordered them to refund the ticket amount of Rs 178 along with Rs 500 as compensation and another Rs 500 as costs.

Country Club

Chandrashekar G M paid up Rs 1.50 lakh to Country Club (I) Ltd Country Point for membership and a free site as promised. However, Country Club did not keep its word and Chandrashekar filed a complain with this Forum, which has ordered the Club to repay Rs 1.3 lakh to him.  It has also ordered the Club to refund Rs 1.25 lakh to Sharath G T.

Press machine

This Forum has helped Rishv Silks, Bangalore, which had ordered a press machine of 50 kg capacity from A-One International, Ahmedabad, paying Rs 1.45 lakh for it.
But the machine did not work. They brought this to the notice of the Forum, which has ordered Kalu Singh Lodha, Proprietor, A-One International, to send a new hydraulic bale press machine or refund Rs 1,75,200 to him with interest at 12 per cent, and Rs 20,000 as damages.
