Irate Siddons slams team for stupid mental errors

Last Updated 08 June 2009, 20:07 IST

A visibly upset Siddons castigated his players in strong words, saying their ordinary shot selection emanated from ‘mental errors’.

“We didn’t make anywhere near enough runs, the par score there against any attack is 170. It’s a flat wicket, fast outfield, and short boundary. Again we made some stupid mental errors. It was ridiculous batting,” Siddons lashed out at the post-match press do.

“They are just mental errors. Their skill level is as good as anyone’s. I’m disappointed and angry. I’m not sure which way to treat them when I speak to them in a minute,” he added.
The Australian said the Bangladeshis have to cultivate the habit of heeding the words of the coach and support staff.

“Our boys, they get it their way a lot, they don’t tend to listen too well. It’s time some pressure is put on them to listen. From the captain down, if they don’t want to listen, well we’ve got to move on. It’s as simple as that. They need to listen right from getting to the bus on time, you know they do it their own way a bit. We’ve come a long way but we need to come a lot further,” he said.

Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful agreed with his coach. “I agree with Jamie, all our batsmen have good technique. The problem is mental. We’re playing bad shots to good balls,” he said.
