Tribals celebrate Kunde Habba

This is the way tribals of the region celebrated ‘Kunde’ festival at Devarapura in Gonikoppa on Thursday. The tribals celebrating this festival paint their faces with black, white and various other colours, with empty plastic bottles, jackfruit skin etc hung around their neck and they sing obscene songs all way long.

The tribals spurted abuses at both men and women and begged for money at shops.  The tribals who roamed all over the city from morning till afternoon, later started consuming alcohol. The tribals lying by the roadside was a common scene from Thithimathi to Gonikoppa.

Those who were lying on the middle of the road were brought to the side by the police to avoid any untoward incidents.   At about 2 pm, they assembled at Devarapura Bhadrakali temple premises and then the drunken devotees sought forgiveness of the deity wobbling and staggering, for having used abusive words at the people.

The people as a part of fulfilment of their vows threw chicken in the air and the devotees assembled outside the temple reached to catch it.  Karnataka Janapada Academy former President and Mysore University lecturer Dr Kale Gowda Nagavara and Vaddagere Chinnaswamy had come to the venue to make a study on the festival.
