Student ends life

According to police, Diwakar (18) was studying at Reddy Janasangha College, Koramangala. After failing in his 1st PUC exams, he applied for the supplementary exams.  But, allegedly distraught with his chances, he decided to take the extreme step.

He was  rushed to hospital where he succumbed, police added.  Diwakar's father Chinnaswamy is no more, while his mother Lakshmi sells milk. Based on her complaint, Ashoknagar police have booked a case of suicide.

Five arrested for kidnap

Mahadevapura police arrested six men on charge of kidnapping two men for ransom, and rescued the victims.  Mahendra Kumar, Javed Pasha, Richard Solomon, Jayakumar, Anand and Wasim are the arrest persons.

Three other suspects, Shafique Apollo and two of his friends are still at large, police said. Radhakrishna and his friends, G Kumar and Prem Kumar purchased scrap at Bagmani Constructions at EMC Square on Mahadevapura Ring Road on May 24.

The suspected kidnappers approached them in two cars when the trio were busy loading the scrap on to a truck and tried to extort money. They forcibly took away G Kumar and Prem Kumar with them in a car, police said.

A few hours later, the alleged kidnappers called up Thippeswamy, a friend of  Radhakrishna and demanded Rs five lakh for releasing Prem Kumar and G Kumar. They directed him to meet them the next day around 9 pm at a tea stall near Kids Kemp.

Thippeswamy reached the spot with a few policemen in mufti, along with an empty box purporting to carry the ransom. Police surrounded the alleged kidnappers and arrested them. Three of them, however managed to escape.  The police have taken Rushendra Kumar into custody for lending his car to the suspects to commit the crime, police added.
