Aruna’s Institute of Fashion Technology celebrated its graduation day and distributed diplomas to the graduating students at a well-attended function in the City recently. Over 60 students received their diplomas.

The chief guest Marie Mascarenhas addressed the gathering and spoke to the students about discovering their inner beauty and letting it shine through by focusing their energies on good deeds and thoughts.

The highlight of the evening was a fashion show that was conceptualised and choreographed by Rama and Parul Khanna.

Students in different categories showcased their designs drawing their inspiration from very diverse themes and ideas. The themes ranged from ancient tribes and cultures to modern leisure destinations.

The first collection was titled Hawaiian Bloom. The student models wore short gowns in shades of blue teamed up with colourful accessories like pink stockings, flowered motifs and garlands, shoes with flowery accents. Lots of oversized bows, tulle and sparkly details were used to bring out the feminine floral theme.

Prison Season was the title of the second category and the designers chose to keep the colour palette to shades of black white grey and brown. Chains, boots, dark heavy eye make up and sombre designs were used to highlight the theme behind the collection. The Aztec inspired collection had the women in gowns of various lengths and the men draped in toga style garments. Plenty of fabric was used in the long flouncy gowns while the short ones had beads and feather, uneven hemlines and tassels. The men wore a mix of Roman and Greek style costumes with some Indian inspired designs. The clothes were mainly in shades of orange, rust and brown and accents were on the drape and cut of the styles.

Awards were also given to students who excelled in different categories. The best student award went to Mayuri, the best designer award went to Mehaboob and the most promising leader of the year award was given to Soumyashree.
