Mumbai FC avoid relegation with 2-0 victory over Bagan

Yadav scored in the 11th and the 24th minute as the hosts, who desperately needed a win to stay in the elite division of the I-League, repeated their 2-0 victory over the Kolkata giant in their earlier group match.

With this win, Mumbai FC have 29 points from 26 matches and have moved to the 11th place in the tally replacing city club Air India, who also survived the drop despite a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Churchill Brothers.

Sporting Club de Goa, who defeated Chirag United and Lajong FC, have been eliminated and will be replaced by local club ONGC and Bangalore's HAL.Earlier, Yadav scored twice including one through penalty in the first half to help Mumbai FC take a lead.

Yadav converted the penalty, awarded to Mumbai FC after Subhas Chakraborthy was brought down by Ishfaq Ahmed, to send the hosts go one-up. Soon after an Evans Quao header off a cross from Pradeep Mohanraj was saved by Bagan goalkeeper Pralay Dutta, the rebound fell in front of Yadav who found the target to make it 2-0 for the hosts.
The difference could have been bigger but Bashiru Mohd Abbas failed to score on at least two occasions. On one occasion he found the net, but it was ruled off-side by referee Pratap Singh.

Meanwhile, the visitors who had no motivation and were playing without some of their experienced members, lagged behind for most of the match.Bagan did come close to reducing the gap on a couple of occasions but they never looked threatening enough.
"We are relieved to have won the match but I believe we were capable off a much better performance. We began well but injuries to key players hampered our campaign," Yadav said after the match.
