Uruguay announce World Cup team

Uruguay announced their final 23-member squad for the football World Cup on Sunday, reports DPA from Montevideo. The Charruas will fly to South Africa Friday.

The team: Goalkeepers: Fernando Muslera, Juan Castillo, Martín Silva; Defenders: Diego Lugano, Diego Godín, Andres Scotti, Jorge Fucile, Martín Caceres, Mauricio Victorino, Maximiliano Pereira;

Midfielders: Walter Gargano, Egidio Arevalo Ríos, Sebastian Eguren, Diego Perez, Alvaro Pereira, Ignacio Gonzalez, Nicolas Lodeiro, Alvaro Fernandez; Forwards: Luis SuArez, Diego Forlan, Sebastian Abreu, Edinson Cavani, Sebastian Fernandez.

Prandelli to take over from Lippi

Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli has agreed to take over from Marcello Lippi as coach of the Italy after the World Cup in South Africa, an Italian soccer federation spokesman said, reports Reuters from Rome.

“Prandelli will be coach for four years,” the spokesman said, explaining that the accord had been reached between Prandelli and Federation President Giancarlo Abete.

Cameroon spring a few surprises

Cameroon named uncapped Gaetan Bong and Eric Choupo-Moting in their 23-man World Cup squad on Saturday, even though the pair have yet to receive FIFA approval to play for the Indomitable Lions, reports Reuters fromYaounde.

FIFA on Friday confirmed receipt of an application from Cameroon to use Bong and Choupo-Moting, previously capped at junior level by France and Germany respectively. "We have already started the relevant investigations. However, to this day, the files are not yet complete and we are in contact with the CFF," a FIFA spokesman said.

The squad: Goalkeepers: Guy Roland N'Dy Assembe, Idriss Carlos Kameni, Hamidou Souleymanou.    Defenders: Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Sebastien Bassong, Gaetan Bong, Aurelien Chedjou, Geremi, Stephane Mbia, Nicolas Nkoulou, Rigobert Song.
