Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Tuesday did some tough talking at a day-long review meeting with all the Departmental Heads, Deputy Commissioners of the districts and Chief Executive Officers of all Zilla Panchayats; “Be efficient and honest in your work, or be ready to face the action,” he warned.

In his first meeting with top officials of the Government in the current fiscal that went on for over 6 hours, the CM asked them to draw inspiration from their counterparts at the Centre who work tirelessly, and toil for the development of the State.

Yeddyurappa flanked by some of his Cabinet Ministers and the Chief Secretary, repeatedly cautioned officials who are indifferent towards administration. “The officials should understand that there is a limit to the patience of people and the leaders. If you fail to perform and do not involve in the State’s development, I will be forced to take stringent action,” he warned.

He said he has received complaints against some DCs for their arrogant behaviour with people and elected representatives. “I am taking action against some of them. I have already directed the Chief Secretary to take action,” he stated.

Borewells

The CM said that there were no reports drinking water crisis in the state. The DCs had been directed to prepare contingency programmes in case the crisis erupts.
He also suggested officers give preference to supplying drinking water through surface water resources rather than sinking borewells.

‘Issue notice to LIC’

According to sources, the CM during the closed-door meeting fumed at officials for delaying implementation of Bhagyalakshmi scheme. Still two lakh insurance bonds need to be distributed to the beneficiaries.

Despite the Government releasing necessary funds, bonds have not been printed yet, officials informed the Chief Minister. Yeddyurappa then directed Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao to issue a notice to LIC, if necessary, for the delay. Rao said he will talk to the Managing Director of LIC and set right the lapses.

The Chief Minister also directed DCs to send e-mails regarding preparations made for Janaspandana programmes to his office.

The DCs were asked to organise health check-up camps during Janaspandana and give priority to the poor, sources said. This apart, he mainly reviewed stock position of chemical fertiliser and seeds, the rainfall position and utilisation of special grants released for development of urban areas in State, sources said.

‘Don’t siwtch off mobile phone’

The CM directed all DCs not to switch off their cell phones during night and be accessible to people 24/7. Rains have started all over the State. There are reports of damage to lives and properties. The officials must respond immediately. The Government will not tolerate delay in taking action, the CM added.
