'Youth have to take a call on eco preservation'

“The future will depend on what the present generation will leave behind and lack of awareness on environmental issues could prove costly in the long run”, he said while speaking at the inauguration of a ‘Eco Fair, Tree Plantation Programme and Environment Competitions for Students: A curtain-raiser to World Environment Day 2010’ here.

Pachauri who is also chairman to the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said, “The youth of today are very well informed. However, we will have to create a new set of ethics and values and come up with new energy and resource saving technologies for the future. Depletion of energy is a real challenge we are facing. There is a limit to exploitation of energy. The latest oil spill is yet another example. The world is not doing enough.”
The programme was held in association with Hewlett Packard as a curtain raiser to World Environment Day on June 5 and had eco fairs, tree plantation programmes and environment quiz competitions for students from various schools and colleges.
