Several trees were uprooted and power supply was also disrupted by the heavy rain.

A seven-year-old girl, identified as  Shilpa, was killed at Cauvery Nagar when bricks of a nearby building fell on the asbestos roof of her home. The girl was watching television along with her father, brother Bharath and his friend Sunil when the incident occurred.

Bharath and Sunil were also injured in the mishap. The Mahadevapura Police have registered a case.

Loss of life and property were reported from some parts of the City after the rain subsided.

The rain uprooted at least 23 trees at Rama temple in Eijipura, Koramangala 2nd block, JC Road, Rajajinagar 5th block, Viveknagar 5th Main, ACS Layout near Kundenahalli, Hesarghatta Main Road, Balagunte 27th cross, Malagadda near Magadi Road and Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s South and East zones. There was also water-logging at MSR Layout and Dasarahalli.

Many areas, including Koramangala 6th block on 18th ‘F’ Main, were plunged into darkness as the rain snapped power supply.

Power failure was also reported from BTM Layout, Vijayanagar, Jayanagar, Indiranagar, Uttarahalli, JP Nagar and KR Puram and Udayanagar, under MEG Layout.

Respite

However, the rain was a welcome respite for most Bangloreans from the sweltering heat. Banglore received 16.3 mm of rain resulting in a maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23.2 degrees Celsius, said the Meteorology department.

According to weather forecast, rain and thundershowers are likely to occur in the City on Monday evening, too, with the sky remaining partially cloudy.
