Ashodaya Samiti bags projects to fight against HIV

Samithi’s Prathima said that the first project was sanctioned from UNFPA, Delhi which enables the samtihi to work in two districts of Rajasthan. The districts are yet to be identified. This is a pilot project which aims to build the capacities of sex workers in the two districts,  empowering them to take up the cause of HIV prevention as well as treatment for sexually transmitted diseases. The community leaders selected for the programme would be visiting Mysore as part of their study tour. The project would be later replicated in other districts by AIDS Control Society, Rajasthan. The cost of the project is Rs 25 lakh, she added.
Another project is sanctioned by UNAIDS of Bangkok. The project aims to bring programme managers and implementers from Asian countries to Mysore to gain first hand experience on implementing HIV prevention programmes in their respective nations. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 75 lakh.

Plans

Abhiram of the Samithi said, inspired by the success of their venture Ashodaya hotel, plans are afoot to extend the business to Mandya. If everything goes well, a hotel would be set up near KSRTC bus stand in Mandya.

 Laundry service is also in the pipeline, Abhiram added.
