Extra-large egg from Punjab finds a place in Limca Book of Records

"It has been mentioned in the agriculture section in the special edition of the Limca Book of Records this year on page number 219," Surinder Joshi owner of the poultry farm in Derabassi town in Punjab, where the hen laid the egg, said.
Joshi, who has been in this business since 1989, added: "I was really surprised to see  that jumbo egg. The mother hen, who weighed 1.25 kilograms, had laid the egg in July 2008 but I got the final certification from the Limca Book of Records in May 2009."
He said that in the past also a hen had laid an egg weighing 132 grams in his poultry farm. It is rare as normally an egg weighs between 40 to 60 grams, pointed out Joshi.
Derabassi town is in the Mohali district of Punjab, around 20 kilometers from here.
"Now I am also planning to approach the officials of The Guinness Book of World Records as after thorough research I have found that the largest egg registered there is of just 160 grams from some suburb in Russia," stated Joshi.
