Gurjar threatens to revive agitation

Last Updated 10 June 2009, 17:31 IST

Still firm on his community’s demand for a scheduled tribe status, the Gurjar leader on Wednesday asked the Ashok Gehlot government to ensure implementation of the 5 percent special reservation for Gurjars and some other backward classes as promised by the Raje government. Addressing a mahapanchayat at Mahravar village in Bharatpur district, Col Bainsla once again tried to gain not only his community’s confidence but support from other castes as well. The presence of Jat leader and former Bharatpur MP Vishwendra Singh was an indication of the fact.

At the same time, he threatened to relaunch the agitation if the ruling Congress didn’t take adequate steps to grant the 5 per cent reservation. He also announced to hold an 11-member core committee to initiate a dialogue with the state government on the demand.
