The main causes of chronic liver disease is alcohol abuse, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. There are 1.5-3 million cirrhotic in India. Patients suffering with cirrhosis see worsening of liver functions, fluid in abdomen, bleeding, repeated infections and encephalopathy.
Dr Sanjay Govil, the Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant surgeon at CARH, said that those with chronic liver diseases can go for liver transplants.
