'Runway' bride at mass marriage

Several like-minded associations had organised mass marriage event at Krishna Priya Kalyana Mantapa in Kengeri on Friday. The event was inaugurated by Union Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge. 

As the mass ceremony commenced and the muhrat neared one of the brides, Lakshmi, suddenly started protesting that she would not marry. Her parents had arranged the marriage with a relative from her mother’s side. The girl, a resident of a village near Kanakapura, informed that she was in love with another person. The girl protested and walked out. There was confusion for some time. The police intervened, consoled the girl and sent her back home with her parents.

As many as 129 couples tied the nuptial knot at the ceremony.
