Thalavadyotsav 2010

The conference was inaugurated by Roddam Narasimha, Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research. Pappu Venugopal Rao, renowned musicologist and Secretary, Music Academy, Chennai was the guest of honour. Thalavadyotsav 2010 would be held till July 11, in the City. On July 9, there would be a Thalavadya concert by Nandi Thalavadya Academy at 6 pm. This would be followed by a performance by Neela Ramagopal (vocal), Charulatha Ramanujam (violin) and S Ashok (mridangam). On July 10, a lecture demonstration on The Art of Konnakol by Trichy R Thayumanavan would be held at 5 pm. At 5.30 pm, there would be a performance by H S Anasuya Kulkarni (ankrang), Ranjani Venkatesh (mridangam) etc.  The conference would come to an end on July 11, with a valedictory session at 10 am followed by Amruthur Janaki Ammal Percussion Competition prize distribution.
At 12 noon, there would be a folk percussion ensemble directed by Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma. For details, call 9448463079.

 Ameya, the dance institute of Chitra Chandrasekhar Dasarathy, will be presenting pieces from the traditional Margam and two new outstanding works Banyan Tree (based on a child's poem) and Chatushka the Quartet on July 11, 6.30 pm at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road. Margam implies a way, a path. It promotes attainment of perfection of body techniques, dedication and discipline in Bharatnatyam. Admission to the event is free.

Devatheja Prakshana is organising a music competition on July 27 to celebrate KrishnaJanmashtami. The slokas of SriKrishnakarnamritha need to be sung in Carnatic music style.     The participants should be in the age group of 16 to 25 years. For details, call 9632461250.
