The cortege left Staff House – the official residence of the Chief of Staff – after his wife Geeta Jamwal and his children bid their final farewell.
The Navy personnel lined up on either side of the road and paid their last respects to the Number 2 officer in the Southern Naval Command. The religious ceremony, which commenced at the end of military ceremonials, concluded with lighting of the funeral pyre.
Twenty-four Men Guard comprising Naval personnel fired in the air as a mark of respect.
Meanwhile, a new angle emerged in the death of Admiral Jamwal, who the Navy has maintained died in an “accidental firing” on July 7. Police, however, now suspect that the Admiral may have rather committed suicide.
The suicide theory is based on the outcome of the initial inquiry done by the police. The postmortem report is being awaited in two weeks’ time.
