Last Updated 09 July 2010, 18:44 IST

The Corporation, to be set up by the Centre in association with the State Government, will finance students to pursue higher education and finance expansion of education institutions as well.

The Corporation, mooted by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, aims at providing loans for expansion of educational institutions and also offer finance facility for students.

The minister, replying to a question by Abdul Ajeem (JD-S), said the State had been providing education loan at reduced interest rates. Setting up of the NEFC will help students.

Demand for inquiry

Members in the Opposition demanded an inquiry into the supply of poor quality answer papers in the recently held SSLC examination.

R V Venkatesh, V R Sudarshan (both Congress) and Nanaiah (JD-S) said the officers of the Education Department were working hands-in-glove with the suppliers.

The guilty should be punished, they demanded. Venkatesh also demanded that the minister should resign owning moral responsibility.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said he had enquired into the procurement of the answer papers.

Replying to a question by P V Krishna Bhat (BJP), Limbavali said he would ensure that the Bangalore University would relaunch the scheme of honouring rankholders with gold medals. He said the medals were instituted by the donors many years ago. Over the years, the value of gold had gone up and the University could not procure gold medals.
