Myriad expressions

The three-day silver jubilee celebrations of Shantala Arts Trust will be held from July 16, 6 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. Vani Ganapati will perform Bharathanatyam and Prasanna Kasthuri and Shila Mehta will perform Kathak on the occasion.

Bangalore Lalitha Kala Parishat is hosting a Bharatanatyam performance of Sushma Rao on July 16, 6.30 pm at H N Kalakshetra, National College, Jayanagar.  

Mixed celebration
Ananya will present a Bharatanatyam recital by Samyukta and a Carnatic vocal concert by Vighnaraja on July 21 at 6.30 pm at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross, Malleshwaram.

The Kuchipudi Rangapooja of Vidya S V will be held on July 19, 6 pm at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road.

Street dance
Avighna Productions is organising Bangalore Street Dancer, a series of reality dance competitions on July 17, 10 am onwards at Maharani Ammani College.

Choreography course
Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography has announced a bachelor’s degree and a diploma in choreography. It is designed as a specialised and comprehensive course in the art of choreography, pedagogy, Kathak, Indian contemporary dance, martial arts, aesthetics, mime, movement analysis and art history.

Last date for applications is July 15 and auditions are on July 20. For details, call 23348645.


An exhibition of paintings by Amrish Vijay Malvankar titled, Shades is on at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath Gallery till July 18, from 11 am to 6 pm.

Digital works
Aamina Shazi’s digital art will be on display at Sublime Art Gallery, UB City till July 30. Aamina pursued digital art relentlessly for over six years and is part of the  world wide online community of digital and visual artists.

Resonances, an exhibition of collages by Prasad Kumar K S, is on at Chitrakala Parishath till July 18.

Group show
Architecture as Inspiration, a group exhibition of paintings and sculptures, is on at Mahua Art Gallery in Sadashivnagar from July 20 to 31, between 11 am  and 7 pm.

Line art
Galerie Sara Arakkal is hosting The Power of Line, the works of 74 Indian artists, at the Galerie till July 31 from 10 am to 6 pm on all days except Sundays.

Mural creations
An exhibition of mural paintings by the students of Bharat Rawal Mural Designing Workshop will be held on July 17 and 18, from 10 am to 8 pm, at Masti Rang Mandir, near Shankarpuram.


‘Sangeetha Sanje’
Dr Pandit Narasimhalu Vadavati Sangeetha Academy is conducting Sangeetha Sanje on July 15, 6 pm at Ananya Auditorium, Malleswaram. Pandit Pallab Das Varanasi, Vijayarama Das and Vadavati Sharada Bharath will perform on the occasion.

Live karaoke
Inchara Music Academy is hosting a live karaoke programme of R D Burman classics, Phir Wohi Raat...Pancham Da Ke Sath at Gayana Samaja Auditorium, K R Road on July 18 at 6 pm.

Soulmate, the blues band, will perform at B Flat in Indiranagar on July 16, 8.30 pm. Soulmate comprises Rudy Wallang and Tips Kharbangar. They will be accompanied by Sam Shullai (drums) and Dwight Pattison (bass).

‘Null Friction’
Null Friction will be performing at Hard Rock Cafe on July 15, 8.30 pm onwards. The band comprises Abhishek Singhal (bass), Ansh Sanyal (drums), and Shreyans Jha (vocals and guitars). The band is popular for its on-stage vivacity and melodic yet ‘head-bang-able’ tunes.

In concert

The 24th Hindustani Shastriya Sangeetha Mahotsava will be held on July18, 5 pm at Bhoomika Sabhangana in Malleshwaram. It will feature artists such as Anandraj Gonwar on vocals, Hanumanth Rao Gonwar and Dattatreya Baindur on the flute. 

Hindustani recital
Apoorva Gokhale will perform a recital at the Hindustani Raag Sangeet being held at The Canara Union, 8th main, Malleshwaram on July 18, 6 pm . Apoorva will be accompanied by Udayraj Karpur on Tabla and Vyasmurti Katti on Harmonium. Entry is free.

Piano strains
The International Music and Art Society is organising a concert by Julian Clef on July 23, 7 pm at the Alliance Francaise. Tickets are available at the Cafe de la liberte, Alliance Francaise from July 17 (10 am to 7 pm).

‘Peas & Carrots’
Catch a glimpse of the intense and energetic Rock Band Peas & Carrots at Reliance TimeOut, Mantri Square on July 17, 7 pm. Peas & Carrots is an acoustic set up, covering varied genres and artistes that brings back popular music to its pure, unadulterated form: the acoustic platform. Sheela, the vocalist, is the driving force behind the band with Claude on keyboards and percussion.

Sidharth makes the band complete being on guitar, vocals and harmonica.


‘Bikhre Bimb’
Girish Karnad's play, Bikhre Bimb (in Hindi) will be staged at Ranga Shankara on July 16 and 17 at 7.30 pm.

The one-act one-performer play tells the story of Manjula Nayak, a professor of English literature who has been an unsuccessful writer in Kannada.

‘The Doorway’
India Foundation for the Arts is organising a play The Doorway by Jyoti Dogra, from July 23 to 25 at Ranga Shankara. The Doorway is a collection of stories woven into a physical narrative examining the nature of our physical inhabiting of ‘closed’ and ‘open’ spaces.

‘The Tale of Haruk’
Inko Centre and Ranga Shankara, in association with Korean Foundation, will host the premiere of The Tale of Haruk on July 27 at 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara.

It will feature traditional Korean puppets and percussion instruments.

English play
Perch, a Chennai-based theatre group, in association with Rafiki is staging Ms Meena at Ranga Shankara, from July 28 to August 1. There will be a matinee show on Saturday and Sunday at 3.30 pm. For details, call 9886370614.
