Though there have been indications that the demand is likely to go up for software professionals, students were not too keen to opt for it and computer science was the fourth preferred course on the day one. There were many takers for mechanical course. As many as 960 seats selected on the first day.

With seven new engineering colleges getting permission to admit 240 students each, nearly 41,050 seats have been allotted by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) for this academic year.

The counselling will be held for rank holders from 1601 to 3200 on the second day.
On the delay in the counselling, a KEA official said: "Most of the staff members in the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) are new and they had no idea about seat allotment for Karnataka.  Moreover the new online procedure was not good enough as many times the system crashed due to more number of logins,"  the official, who had visited AICTE, Delhi, added.

The official said that AICTE staff were not aware about the courses available in engineering colleges in the state.

Anxious wait

Most of the students were sure of getting the seat in the college of their choice.  One of them was Anjana, who secured 1,110th rank in CET, was hopeful of joining either BMSRIT or MSRIT.  "Most of the top rank holders would opt for IIT and already AIEEE couselling has commenced. I am hopeful of getting a seat in a good engineering college,” she said.
Divya, another student, seconded the view. She said that scores of CET rank holders will opt to study in IITs and students with 1000 plus ranks can hope to get seats of their choice.

Even Harshil P Kakaiaya, who had secured 4,973rd rank, felt that he will get a Communication seat at MSRIT or BIT.  "My rank is not very good, but I am confident enough to get a seat in an engineering college of my choice," he added.

Some students with good percentage and decent rank in CET are trying for seats under reservation.  "I know my percentage and rank are good enough but I want to study in the college of my choice which I may not get in case of general category. So I have applied for a reserved category seat," said Nagashree S who wants to study either in BMSIT or PESIT.

Her mother Vijayalakshmi said, “I have asked her to apply for a category seat and the chances of getting a seat of her choice is more.”
