Voting peaceful for TP, ZP byelections

Out of the 9,073 voters in the constituency as ma ny as 7,127 have cast votes, thus registering a poll percentage of 78.55.  As many as 13 booths were set up for the election.
The seat fell vacant as the incumbents joined government service. Ajay R (Congress), V Thimmaiah (BJP), Anjappa and Nagappa H G (both independents), Ramappa V (Congress rebel) had contested for the seat reserved for Scheduled Caste. A tough fight is said to have ensued between Ajay R and V Ramappa. JD(S) has extended its support to Congress and the leaders of the former have sought votes for Congress candidates. The counting of votes will be held on Monday.

70 pc voting

The voting for byelections to Zilla Panchayat in Gauribidanur passed off peacefully without any untoward incident here on Sunday. According to reports, 70 pc voting has been registered at Vidurashwatha Zilla Panchayat constituency. There were four candidates in the fray for the election. The voting began at 7 in the morning.

Candidates putting up shamiyana and seeking votes near the booths was a common scene. The candidates of BJP, Congress and JD(S) resorted to intense campaigning. Their supporters conducted door-to-door campaign. The voting picked up pace by noon.
