Last Updated 15 July 2010, 19:40 IST

Mosquito Control Project Director Dr Lokesh said the BBMP has taken several precautionary steps to contain the spread of diseases. The Palike is spraying pesticides, carrying out fogging and has launched several health awareness camps to educate the public about maintaining cleanliness in and around their houses.

Dr Lokesh claimed that the Palike has been able to control the spread of dengue and chikungunya in the City. Also, the number of people suffering from the two diseases have come down significantly.

The Palike has assigned three people to spray pesticides in each ward. In addition to this the Palike doctors, staff and link workers are holding health camps in slums and other places in the City. City corporators and local administrators have also joined the health officers in creating awareness among the people. The BBMP has also undertaken a publicity drive to inform every citizen about the precautionary measures to be taken to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases, said Dr Lokesh.

Blood donation camp

A blood donation camp has been organised at the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's Central office premises on Friday with the cooperation of Lions' Blood Bank and Bhagavan Mahaveer Jain Hospital.
