Providing food for the soul

Located in J P Nagar 2nd phase, Vipra Cafe is one of the most popular darshinis in the locality. The small place boasts of a decent number of items — South and North Indian dishes, chaats, snacks and juices. And one can also have authentic and traditional food items. Run by an engineering graduate Satish Kakal, who forayed into food business considering the good opportunities of growth in it, the eatery is usually full, mostly with young professionals and students of colleges located nearby.

Kotte kadubu, neer dosa and akki rotti are the special items available for breakfast and are also the fast-moving items along with masala dosa, lemon rice, avalakki bath, shavige bath and idli sambar. Not only is the place popular for its delicious food, it is hygienic as well. Unlike many other food joints that don’t bother about the hygiene factor, Vipra Cafe stresses a lot on it. Satish’s expertise in modern technology has been utilised well in renovating the outlet which has the latest sterilising equipment, water purifiers and artistic walls. “In our shop, hygiene comes first, then quality and later comes the taste. What I believe is if we give importance to hygiene and quality, the taste comes automatically,” says Satish.

Avinash, a software engineer, who likes masala dosa offered by the joint, says the food is not only tasty but has less oil too. “The food we get here is not different from the one we prepare at home. Satish’s commitment to popularise rural and traditional food among city-dwellers should be appreciated. Our traditional food has less fat and is good for health. I never miss neer dosa and avalakki bath whenever I come here,” he says. For the students of VET College, RV Dental College and Vijaya College, the eatery proves to be an excellent hangout.

Overwhelmed by the increasing demand for traditional stuff, Satish is keen to introduce more items in the future like sorekai payasa and coconut kadubu. “People whole-heartedly accept these stuff as they are tasty as well as healthy. Our focus is to promote food that re-energises both the mind and the body,” he adds.
