Gujarat DGP tenders apology to HC in contempt case

The DGP apologised yesterday through an affidavit filed before a Division Bench of Justices Jayant Patel and Abhilasha Kumari.

Khandwawala was facing contempt charges for filing a chargesheet against a woman who was already acquitted  by the High Court in an abduction case.
"I tender my unconditional apology to the court if any of my act of commissions or omissions amounts to contempt of the court," he said.

The affidavit was filed in response to the court direction last week on a petition of Sunita Yadav, a CRPF Assistant Commandant posted in Jammu and Kashmir.
The DGP has said he did not know about the HC order absolving Sunita in the abduction case. Following the apology, the court directed Khandwawala to get her name deleted from the chargesheet and file a compliance report by August 3.

According to case details, IPS officer O P Mathur (now retired) had registered a case against Yadav, her sister Sarita Sharma and five others, accusing them of abducting and illegally detaining him in December 1996.
