One lakh acres for State's industries

Deputy Commissioners instructed to identify suitable non-arable lands: Nirani

Speaking to mediapersons in the city on Monday, he said, that the deputy commissioners were instructed to identify    lands that are non-arable but suitable for setting up industries. Accordingly such lands are identified in 18 districts and notification has been issued for primary land acquisition process. The land acquisition process will be completed in the next six months, he said. 

The farmers who give up their lands will be compensated and in case the children of farmers wish to establish industry they will be given developed industrial land, the minister explained.

Investors’ convention

The global investors’ convention, which was earlier postponed due to recession, will be organised next November or December. Industrialists from various countries will be participating and investments amounting to Rs 3,00,000 crore is envisaged.

Tenders have already been called to set up Industrial Corridor on Chennai - Mumbai National Highways and 19 tenders have been received.

The Corridor will be set up in public -private participation. Residential townships, complete with housing complexes, hospitals and schools will be provided for those who set up industries under this project, he said.

It is proposed to set up steel and cement factories at locations where raw materials are available.

Accordingly steel factories will be set up at Bellary, Bagalkot, Chitradurga districts and cement factories will be set up at Tumkur and Chitradurga districts.

Food processing

The State government also has plans to encourage food processing industry and those who set up such industries will be provided with 15 to 50 per cent subsidy, amounting up to Rs 50 crore subsidy, he said.

The Department ahs approved setting up of refrigeration units at Dharwad and Bagalkot districts, through KEPEK, at an estimated investment of Rs 10 crore.

This will enable farmers to refrigerate their agricultural produce, he said.
