Speaking at a programme to disburse loans to Joint Liability Groups (JLG) of men at Kondenahalli in the taluk on Saturday, he said credit facilities to set up industries would generate employment and help in removing rural impoverishment. Farmers have been facing severe hardship due to drastic depletion of ground water rendering them unable to repay debts.

He said, the JLG scheme, introduced by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, has been in effect since 1982. The objective is to provide monetary assistance to farmers by organising them. The facility will also be extended to women self-help groups in the near future, he said. Taluk Panchayat former president S Y Mariyappa said men can organise into  groups and engage in socially constructive work.

Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department Assistant Director Dr Madhunatha Reddy said farmers should seek proper advice before purchasing cattle. He suggested that insurance be obtained for cattle and ear tag must be attached to them without fail.  A sum of Rs 35 lakh was disbursed to 14 JLGs of Kondenahalli. Manager Raghunathan, Assistant Manager Karthik and others were present.
