However, the miscreants left the car and managed to flee through the forest as they saw policemen at Anechoukur Gate of South Kodagu.

When the police seized the Ambassador car, they found chilly powder, knife, a short hand gun, 9 mm pistol, three empty cartidges and 10 filled cartidges inside it.

Miscreants had hired the taxi of Kiran Kumar of Kankanadi in Mangalore on Monday. They asked Kumar to proceed to Kodagu and at around 10.15 pm, the taxi reached Madikeri.

After having coffee at a tea shop near Thimmaiah Circle, the miscreants asked Kumar to drive the taxi towards Virajpet. When the vehicle reached the bridge across Cauvery river at Bethri, miscreants pointed pistol and revolver at Kumar. Later, they took away the car after robbing off the valuables of Kumar.

Meanwhile, Kumar could inform the police about the incident with the help of a driver of a vehicle. Accordingly, the police passed on the information to all police stations in the district immediately. Though a police team was waiting near Anechoukur Gate, miscreants managed to flee from the scene after abandoning the car on the road.

The seized car, weapons and other items were handed over to the Madikeri Rural Police. Superintendent of Police Manjunath K Annigeri told reporters that the miscreants might have come from North India.

“It is suspected that the miscreants might have been planning to execute a mighty operation in Mysore,” he said adding that computer portraits of the miscreants have been drawn and the alert messages have already been sent to all police stations in the State.
