Preparations afoot for Nandi Utsav

Committees formed, but uncertainty prevails over date

District in-charge minister Dr Mumtaz Ali Khan inaugurated the office for the event at Citizens’ Club in the City on Wednesday. He said that the Utsav should be observed in an unique manner and invited suggestions from public for the success of the event. The Minister suggested that the artistes and litterateurs of the district should contribute in their own way for the Utsav.

“Political affiliations should not come in the way in the conduct of the Utsav. Legislators of all parties in the district should be taken into confidence. The State Government will provide financial assistance and extend necessary cooperation for the event,” the Minister said.

Legislator K P Bache Gowda promised to extend all possible cooperation for the event. Discussion will be held with other legislators in this regard, he stated.
Deputy Commissioner Anwar Pasha said committees have been constituted for specific tasks and hoped that the members of such committees would plan and organise the event in a grand manner.

During a public interaction later, people insisted that Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa should inaugurate the Utsav. It was their opinion that the Chief Minister has not visited the district headquarters so far and hence he should be invited to inaugurate the Utsav. They also sought grants to the Utsav on the lines of Hampi Utsav.Preparations afoot for

Concurring with the public view, Minister Dr Mumtaz Ali Khan suggested that a delegation of five legislators invite the Chief Minister and also submit a memorandum seeking grants. He said the event could be held on a different date if the Chief Minister so suggested. The suggestion was agreed by one and all.

Uncertainty over dates

However, there is still uncertainty over the dates for the Utsav, now scheduled for three days from August 23. While some have no problem with the dates, some more have felt that it would difficult to mobilise funds, fix artistes for programmes and bring out a souvenir in a span of 20 days. They suggested to postpone the event. The Deputy Commissioner, however said that suitable decision will be taken by considering suggestion of all the people.

Meanwhile, committees have been constituted for the conduct of the Utsav. Reception committee, food committee, souvenir, women’s committees, publicity and entertainment, accounts and audit, health and emergency services and media committees have been formed. Revenue Department, Police, Zilla Panchayat and other departments have been directed to mobilise funds.

The office for Nandi Utsav will function from Citizens’ Club. The various committees will chalk out the programme for the event at the venue. People interested in giving suggestions, guidance can do so by a personal visit or call 08156-275694.
