Rivers continue to overflow in Kodagu

The rains which should have lashed about two months ago failed, thereby drying fields, streams, ponds, lakes and all water bodies.


The paddy cultivation activities were delayed due to failed monsoon. The district was facing threat of shortage of drinking water. During such a scenario, the monsoon hit Kodagu and rekindled the old memories of monsoon.

Srimangala, Kutta, Birunani, Biruga, Nalkere, T Shettigeri, B Shettigeri, Ponnampete received heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday. Rains has subsided in these regions on Friday.
Lakshmantheertha river is gushing in full strength as its origin Brahmagiri hills in Kurchi received heavy rains. Harihar, Kanur, Nittur regions are facing threats of flood due to increasing water-level in Lakshmantheertha.

However, the people were relieved from the fear of flood when rains subsided in the region, thereby resulting in decrease in water-level in Lakshmantheertha. However,

Lakshmanatheertha had flown over Nittur bridge inundating bridge by about 2 feet.
Thithimati, Gonikoppa, Mayamudi received moderate rainfall facilitating agricultural activities.
Schools and colleges will remain closed even on Saturday.
