Sonia in US to visit ailing mother

Accompanied by son Rahul and daughter Priyanka, the UPA chairperson left Delhi on July 25.

It is not known when she will be returning. Sonia’s mother, in her 80s, is said to be undergoing a series of medical tests in the US. Though Paola Maino stays in the family home at Orbassano in Turin, she had, of late, been living for long periods in New Delhi.

The absence of Sonia and Rahul from Parliament had sparked speculations throughout this week. That the Congress leaders were not aware of the reason for the absence only enhanced the curiosity level.
