Mega lok adalat in Kodagu from Aug 2

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, District and Sessions Judge Ashok Nijagannavar said Lok Adalat will be held on alternative days at Madikeri, Virajpet and Somwarpet court between 1 pm and 2.30 pm.

There are 11,733 cases pending in Madikeri, Somwarpet and Virajpet courts. Of which, 4,784 cases are civil and 6,949 are criminal cases. In case of serious criminal cases like murder, attempt to murder, robbery, rape can not be disposed through mutual negotiation.
Legal Services Authority aims at providing justice to all through Lok Adalat. Free legal help will be given to those poor women whose annual income is below Rs 50,000. “We are planning to solve atleast 5,000 to 6,000 cases through Lok Adalat in the district.”

Under Negotiable Instruments Act, 457 civil, 273 criminal, 669 MVC cases can be solved in Madikeri taluk.

He said those who were killed in road accident, justice can be delivered if both the parties agree for mutual negotiation. “We have already held discussion with the insurance companies and bank officials on compensation. Even cheque bounce cases can also be sorted out throgh Lok Adalat.”

Nijagannavar said “there is no scope for disposing the case which are heinous through Lok Adalat.” The setting up of more and more courts, police stations to check crime is not a good sign in the society. Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Hemavathy, and others were preset.
