Sekar, who had been sidelined by AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa was congratulating Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's son, M K Stalin who was recently elevated as Deputy Chief Minister when AIADMK MLAs protested. They said Speaker R Avadiyappan should not allow the actor to speak without the permission of the party's whip K A Sengotaiyan.

Sekar, who continued his speech, alleged that he was threatened by one of the AIADMK MLAs and wanted the Chair to take notice of it and provide protection.

The drama started after the entire opposition, barring Sekar, walked out.Sekar, who had been embarrassing his party's high command, by frequently calling on Karunanidhi and other DMK leaders in the recent past, chose to remain in the House when the rest of the AIADMK members walked out, alleging irregularities in the recent Lok Sabha polls.

Leader of the House and Finance Minister K Anbazhagan felicitated Stalin on being appointed as Deputy Chief Minister, followed by Congress leader Peter Alphonse.

When the Speaker wanted to know if anyone else was interested in offering felicitations, Sekar stood up and congratulated Stalin. AIADMK members, who were in the lobby after the walk out, rushed inside and demanded that the Speaker disallow Sekar from making his statement.
