Big Cinemas to screen operas

Now showing

The screenings will kick-off with “La Cenerentola (Cinderella)”, Rossini’s much-loved 19th century comic opera based on the classic fairytale performed by Glyndebourne Festival’s music director Vladimir Jurowski and Sir Peter Hall.

The screening of La Cenerentola is clearly targeted at the connoisseur as it is being touted as a red carpet wine-and-cheese event with an all-black dress code that will cost Rs 1,000 per ticket. Officials from the multiplex said on Wednesday the screening -in partnership with London-based More2Screen- will take place at Big Cinemas complex in Noida on June 20 and 21. The opera will be screened in Italian with English subtitles.

Big Cinemas has already lined up two other operas — Giulio Cesare (Julius Caesar)” and all-star tribute concert from Petra, Jordan titled “The Pavarotti Tribute Concert”.  The concert honouring the late tenor Luciano Pavarotti will feature his former singing partners Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, along with Andrea Bocelli and Sting.

Commenting on the event, Big Cinemas COO Tushar Dhingra said audience in India are getting to learn about international performing arts like opera as a result of global exposure.
