The programme was jointly organised by district administration, Zilla Panchayat and ST John’s School.
Addressing the gathering District Malaria Officer Dr Babu Reddy said dengue and chikungunya was spreading rapidly and all the efforts of residents to protect themselves had yielded little result.
“The highest number of dengue and chikungunya cases have been reported from Chintamani taluk, said Reddy who added the only way to control the disease was through maintaining cleanliness.
The water tanks must be compulsorily emptied once a week and should be cleaned. The fresh water must be stored after the tank is completely dried. Once filled the tank must be tightly closed or secured, he added. Reddy suggested people to use mosquito coils and nets to protect themselves from the mosquitoes.
Many children participated in the programme. They also took part in the procession taken out from the Government Hospital. District Health Supervisor H S Gopalakrishna, St John’s School’s Henry Prasanna, Kiran Kumar, programme co-ordinator Asha, Dr Venkateshmurthy and others were present on the occasion.
