Man kills wife over dowry, arrested

He used to beat her up, son tells police

A 32-year-old woman was found dead at her house in south Delhi’s R K Puram on Monday. She was allegedly beated to death by her husband who demanded more dowry from her family. Police have arrested the man. 

On Monday morning, victim Sumita’s sister Suchitra made repeated attempts to contact her over phone.When she failed to get a response, she reached her house in R K Puram sector 1 and found her body kept on a slab of ice .

Sumita’s husband Vinod Kapadia, who works as a manager in a private firm, was missing.
She called police and other family members.

“We received a call around 9:30 am. When we reached there, we found that the victim was kept on an ice slab,” a police officials said.

The body has been sent to AIIMS for a post-mortem. Police registered a case of murder under the sections 302 and 498 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code and started an investigation.

During investigation, police found that Sumita married Vinod in 2004.She used to work in a retail company but left the job after her marriage.Suchitra stated that Sumita’s husband used to torture her for dowry.

Sumita’s father Kailash Punia also gave money to Vinod many times but he was never satisfied.According to Suchitra, Sumita told her on Saturday that she was beaten up by her husband in front of their six-year-old son, Hardik.

Since Sunday morning, Sumita’s phone remained switched off, she added.
Police then arrested Vinod. “On the basis of the statement of the victim’s son and the injury marks on her body, Kapadia was arrested. The victim’s injury marks revealed that she was brutally beaten up. Her son told police that his father used to beat his mother,” said the police officer.

But Vinod told police that hisr wife died on Sunday evening due to consumption of some poisonous substance.

Vinod's parents live in sector-8 in RK Puram area. His father Ramdas works at Seva Bhawan.
