Villagers protest against illegal liquor

They suspect officers involvement

The protest was jointly organised by Aldur Hobli Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and various women empowerment groups, hundreds of colony residents gathered near the police station and shouted slogans against the police and excise department officials.

“Illicit liquor business is being carried out without any check in Havvalli village. The menace is disturbing the peaceful life of the Dalit residents. The consumption of hooch will deteriorate the health condition of the villagers,” they said.

They said that they had complained on the production of illicit liquor, no action had been initiated against the concerned so far.

The residents strongly suspect that officials are involved in the illicit liquor trade, said Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Hobli President Havvalli Girish.

The protesters warned of staging a protest in front of Aldur police station and District
Excise Department if the officials failed to take action against illicit liquor. The protest was withdrawn after Sub Inspector Saleem assured of action.

Jatha

The members of Veer Bhagath Singh Youth Club took out a jatha on Sunday urging to control illicit liquor menace at Satthihalli Gram Panchayat.    

The jatha was lead by Veer Bhagath Singh Youth Club President Jagadeesh, Vice-president Chethan, Secretary Annappa. The jatha was  carried out from Yalagudi village to Surappana Halli, Satthihalli, Machagondanahalli and Devigudda.

Protesters said that poor residents have become the victims of illicit liquor.  They also warned of  protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, if the officials concerned failed to take action.  A memorandum was submitted to Aldur Station Sub Inspector
