'Decision on drinking water projects within 15 days'

They were speaking at ZP meeting on Tuesday. Congress member A Lokeshkumar raised the issue of Rs 12.96 crore proposal and said that the proposal was sent to the goverment six months ago. However, not even a single pie had been released so far.

Karun Kalaiah said that no borewells have been dug in the district in the last one year. “The district might face shortage of water by the end of the year as the district received scanty rainfall this year,” he said.

Manumuthappa said a delegation of MLAs had met the Chief Minister two times after submitting the proposal, who in turn had assured to release the fund. “We will take a decision on the proposal within 10 to 15 days,” he said.

The President said that shortage of drinking water is a serious issue in Kodagu. “All party delegation will also be taken to the CM,” he said. Manumuthappa said government had released special grant for the drinking water schemes in Shimoga.

ZP CEO A B Ibrahim said drinking water schemes can not be undertaken under MGNREGS. “However, the work on distribution canals can be undertaken.”
