An application was moved in the court by lawyer Norma Alvares questioning the pollution clearance to the project. Alvares had been appointed amicus curiae by the court in a suo motto petition on the shortage of drinking water in Goa.
The Sesa unit was granted environment clearance by the Union Ministry of Environment in June 2009. The ministry has also been made a respondent in the case.
