The target of the attempted abduction was M D Raju (50), an employee of Mohan and Company on Kasturba Road, who lives in Akkur Layout in Yelahanka. Police recovered a car used to kidnap.

Raju was returning home on his moped when he stopped near Central Library in Cubbon Park when some men called out to him. “I thought they were my company’s customers.
A Maruti Swift car drove up. The occupants got down, pushed me into it and drove off before I could understand what was happening,” he added.

There were five men in the car. Four others waited on four bikes close by. Some others were waiting in another car (Tata Indica).

The bike riders and the Indica started following the Swift, stated the police.
One of the suspects in the Swift called up one of the bike riders and directed him to return to Cubbon Park to take away Raju’s moped.

The motorist called back a few minutes later and told the police were taking away the moped with them. “We were about to reach Sanjaynagar junction when the motorist called back.

The caller noticed traffic police at the junction and told his associates that police had been alerted about the kidnap bid and may have instructed R T Nagar traffic police to stop the cars,” Raju added.

Panicking, the men threatened Raju with dire consequences if he spoke to police, stopped the car, pushed him out, got into Indica car and fled, said the police.

No enmity

Raju claimed he had no enimity or financial transactions with anybody. “They thrashed and threatened Raju asking: ‘Do you defame our Guru (leader)?’ It is not known who the ‘Guru’ is. We are trying to ascertain the identity of the car owner, and searching for the suspects,” said DCP G Ramesh.
