Sex ratio improves in UP

While in 1991 there were 876 females against every 1000 males, in 2001 this figure has gone upto 898, Minister for Family Welfare Babu Singh Kushwaha told the Vidhan Sabha during question hour.

To supplementaries on a question by Shyam Dev Roychoudhary (BJP) the minister said that laws for checking sex determination tests were being implemented forcefully in the state and 7431 surprise checks were conducted on ultra sound centres and action was taken against 328 of them.

The minister assured that the drive would be launched against the ultra sound centres to check this menace. In reply to another question, the government told the House that over Rs 11 crore had been spent on fuel on government aircraft since 2005.

The Chief Minister Mayawati said this in reply to a question by Anugrah Narain Singh of the Congress.
