Issuing a notice to the Chandigarh Health and Family Welfare Commissioner-cum-Secretary, National Human Rights Commission asked the official to submit a report on the incident within four weeks from the date of its receipt.

The Commission took suo motu cognizance of the media report in this connection on July 22, the NHRC said in a statement.

"It was alleged that the hospital authorities refused to admit her without reports of certain tests. Even after the delivery, she was not given proper medical care, as a result, the child died immediately after the birth," Commission noted.

The incident was alleged to have taken place at a government hospital in Chandigarh on June 21, it said.

Media reports claimed that the woman was undergoing treatment at the same hospital as she was admitted there only after her baby died.
