10 kg ovarian tumour removed

Hima Prashanth (name changed) was diagnosed with the tumour, when she went for a check-up at The Cradle Hospital here on August 6.

She was then admitted on August 9 and the tumour was removed during the 40 minute surgery.

Hima had delivered her first child 18 months ago at the hospital following which she started putting on weight. She tried various ways to lose weight but in vain.

Last week, when she went for the check-up, Dr Prakash Kini, senior obstetrician and gynaecologist, detected the tumour.

He said that the weight of the tumour was more like the weight of delivering triplets. “The tumour covered whole of her stomach which put a lot of pressure on stomach as well as intestine. If it had gone undetected it would have either ruptured or twisted, which would have made the case complicated,” he said.
